I posted briefly this morning that Callide B1 was back online yesterday evening (a little later than expected) and a couple of our readers reminded us that Kogan Creek coal-fired plant also returned to service today.
Here’s a view of the most recent 24 hour period from the ez2view ‘Unit Dashboard’ widget at 15:35 dispatch interval today:
We can see that the unit came online just prior to 04:00 this morning (hence the small snippet of yesterday’s bid data visible), and is now running up close to Maximum Capacity.
Winding back the ‘Bids & Offers’ widget in ez2view focused on the KPP_1 unit, we see how the unit had a tube leak experienced before the Callide C4 Catastrophe, and was going to come offline as a result – but ended up limping through to 1st June as a result of the lack of units at Callide:
Paul was one of the founders of Global-Roam in February 2000. He is currently the CEO of the company and the principal author of WattClarity. Writing for WattClarity has become a natural extension of his work in understanding the electricity market, enabling him to lead the team in developing better software for clients.
Before co-founding the company, Paul worked as a Mechanical Engineer for the Queensland Electricity Commission in the early 1990s. He also gained international experience in Japan, the United States, Canada, the UK, and Argentina as part of his ES Cornwall Memorial Scholarship.
Yallourn unit 3 came offline for a tube leak – but ABC reports (on Mon 9th June 2025) that ‘an air duct in unit three collapsed during maintenance’, so we take an initial look.
Yesterday (Tue 26th Sept 2023) we saw Kogan Creek drop offline for a few hours – and were asked if this was related to industrial action. Here, with the benefit of ‘next day public’ data, we take a first look.
A follow-on to my earlier article of a couple weeks ago, looking at another instance where a team effort was required to counter a drop in system frequency following the loss of generation at a large power station (this time the single unit Kogan Creek power station – the largest single unit in the NEM).
